WASTE IS now the most important trace of our daily existence. Each of us throws garbage at home in the street, in the wild, every day. This gesture is accomplished in half-consciousness and forgotten a second later. But far from the eyes the waste continues to transform and is not inert. They become part of a moving universe and join the billions of particles that make up energy and matter.

This photographic series presents waste, neglected traces of the common history that lives in us, crushed, swept, thrown, recovered after our passage. Yet today these wastes bear witness to a planetary lifestyle as complex as it is casual, as paradoxical as it is unequal.

In an abstract way, the images present garbage collected on the ground in the urban space. They challenge the eye, intrigue the mind because it
is necessary for most images to guess what they represent. Is it something known? Also is it a photo-graph, a drawing? Waste is not regarded as such until its true nature is revealed. Thus, the project deals with questions about the appearance, the diversity, the environment, and for some images the notions of life and death are evoked.

JÄTTEET OVAT nykyisin merkittävin jälki ihmisen elosta maapallolla. Heitämme roskia päivit-täin kadulle ja luontoon puolihuolimattomasti, unohtaen ne saman tien. Mutta vaikka jäte katoaa näköpiiristämme, se ei lakkaa olemasta. Se jatkaa matkaansa muuntuen osaksi universumin lukemattomia hiukkasia, joista kaikki energia ja aine koostuu.

Tämä valokuvasarja kertoo noista unohdetuista jäljistä – ne ovat yhteistä historiaamme, joka elää meissä hävitettynä ja hajonneena, jatkaen elämäänsä meidän jälkeemmekin. Tänään ne ovat todistuskappaleita planetaarisesta elämäntavasta, joka on samaan aikaan monimutkainen, välitön, paradoksaalinen ja epäoikeudenmukainen.

Kuvat esittävät kaupunkiympäristöstä kerätyt jätteet abstraktissa muodossa. Ne haastavat silmää ja hämäävät mieltä, sillä yleensä joudumme pohtimaan niiden sisältöä. Onko kuvassa jotakin tuttua? Onko kyse valokuvasta vai piirroksesta? Emme näe jätettä jätteenä ennen kuin sen todellinen luonne paljastuu. Näin kuvat liittyvät kysymyksiin asioiden ulkoasusta, monimuotoisuudesta, ympäristöstä ja joissakin tapauksissa myös elämästä ja kuolemasta.
