The Sunset of Sunshine

THESE WORKS are part of my 3-year project called “The Sunset of Sunshine” and are based on studio work using debris objects I found along the shores of the Mediterranean Sea (Such as the work Meal/ Dinner), studio work reacting to the condition of seas and oceans (like the work Oil Spill, made of 4 kg of colored gummy candies containing petroleum food coloring) and photographs and videos taken while joining a research sail in which I found that for 17 hours almost nothing appeared besides clear blue water (See the Sea Triptych).

The objects tell the story of consumerism and how our objects of desire turn boring in a split second, the beauty fades away and they become unnecessary, yet graceful and tempting. I ask myself whether local political collisions reflected in these objects become unimportant when we all behave the same way?

The Mediterranean Sea, which is highly important to the economy and ecological system, has 10 tons of plastics. The plastics decompose into microplastics and nanoplastics, toxic particles that can’t be traced, that have been proved to be dangerous to man. It is eaten by fish, absorbed in plankton, and present in any product coming from the sea.
